I recognized in working with young adults that they were taught in schools to advocate and seek out help from school counselors, social workers, or psychologists, in middle and high school. Except, a gap in services forms when these adolescents graduate and enter the workforce. We don’t have non-clinical counseling services available at work. Often times its only Human Resources, and their goal is to protect the company. This increased skillset for self-advocacy with no resource to follow up leads to increased burnout and low employee resiliency.
Also clients phase out of clinical therapy, there’s often a gap for needing extra sessions for maintaining progress, but clinicians no longer have a justification for clinical therapy. Sometimes this leads to abrupt ending of services due to a lack of resources for maintenance planning and check-ins.
This drop-in service aims to meet both these resource deficits in our mental health system.
